1. Herniated Disc

May 3, 2004

To whom it may concern:

I am writing you today to let you know how important acupuncture is to me. I was diagnosed with a herniated disc in my back in September of last year. After months of taking pills and physical therapy I continued to have pain everyday. I did not want to have surgery because the entire post-surgical back patient’s I met in physical therapy. Every person I talked to said they wished they had not had the surgery.

I was referred to Dr. Tu my acupuncturist, by my niece who woke up one day in excruciating pain in her back. She went to Dr. Tu, and after one treatment she was pain free. I then went to Dr. Tu and after one treatment I to felt better. I stopped therapy and taking my painkillers, and after eight weeks of acupuncture I was back to work.

I think acupuncture is a much healthier and risk free treatment. You don’t have to be dependent on drugs for pain relief, and there is no risk of post-surgical complications.

Thank you

2. Severe tendonitis

The Hamm’s Building

May 7, 2004

To whom it may concern:

I am writing you this letter in regards to the benefits of the services I have received from Jian Tu, L.Ac., Ph.D. Dr Tu is a licensed acupuncturist whom I first consulted in late January of this year. I had severe tendonitis in both wrists and arms, extending into one shoulder and my back as well, from overuse of the computer at work doing a special project. I was in a fair amount of pain.

I had already been to a work comp doctor at Kaiser, whose sole response was to give me one 30-minute physical therapy session a week and fill a prescription for ibuprofen. The exercises the physical therapist told me to do did not lessen the pain, nor increase my ability to use my hands. The ibuprofen was not helping with either pain or inflammation. I was unable to do computer work at my job. It was difficult to sleep at night. I had to wear braces on both wrists every night.

A friend referred me to Dr. Tu. She said that she had once had tendonitis so severe in both hands from computer work, that she could not even turn a doorknob to open a door. She said after one week of treatment with Dr. Tu, she was much better.

After one week of several treatments with Dr. Tu, I also was much better. The strong pain in my shoulder began to go away. My hands and wrists felt much better. I am still seeing Dr. Tu under worker’s compensation once a week. His treatment have been extremely beneficial to lessening the pain, increasing my ability to use my hands, and allowing me to be able more computer work at my job.

I cannot say enough for how wonderfully healing his treatments have been. Without them, I do not know what I would have done. Acupuncture’s benefits are both immediate, and sustaining. Acupuncture does not cause any side effects (unlike ibuprofen), as it is drugless. I wholeheartedly support the use of acupuncture and would recommend it to anyone who asked.

3. Numbness

May 20, 04

To whom it may concern:

I have some numbness in my hand and pain in my back for quite long time.

Dr. Tu treated me with acupuncture and herbs. After few weeks, much of the discomfort is gone.

I like acupuncture and Chinese medication. I haven’t noticed side effects.

4. Shoulder Region Pain

Date: May 23, 2004

Re. Dr. Jiang Tu

To whom it may concern:

Before I had started my treatments with you for my injury to my scapular area it was to the point that I had given up all hope that it would get better. Whenever I would do anything that involved any physical activity with my shoulder the muscle on that side of my back would pull. The muscle would stay tight and would not relax.

From the first treatment I could feel the muscle beginning to relax and after the third treatment the muscle had recovered enough that it no longer would pull.

At this point I was able to start a program with my physical therapist to increase my strength and flexibility.

I am very happy to say that I am less than ten pounds away from my goal of lifting pounds and being able to return to work.

I would like to thank you for your caring, and encouragement and for giving me back hope.

5. A fractured Finger

I think acupuncture is more effective than western doctors sometimes.

I had a fractured finger last year and went to see western doctors and an acupuncturist, Jiang Tu. I went to see the acupuncturist after 5 months had past because my finger was still hurting. At that time my finger did not get better. I could not move my finger much because of the pain and swelling. I do not like acupuncture although it is not pain, I just don’t like needle. However it helped my finger a lot. I had acupuncture for about one month. I could move my finger much better and pain was almost gone.

It was unbelievable I went to see three western doctors including an emergency room doctor. The emergency doctor was irresponsible because he gave me a splint to make my finger bend. After I wake up I could not make my finger straight. The next week I went to see a regular doctor. She gave me a splint to make my finger straight. She told me that she would send me physical therapy, if my finger could not be straightened. Those doctors gave me splint but they did not do any treatment. It was strange experience for me. Even though I go to see a doctor in my country, Japan, about this case, they will do some treatment. I went back to see the regular doctor several times because of pain and swelling in the finger. She just told me that it would take time to heal. I stopped seeing her because I thought she would not help me. After few weeks I went to see another doctor, he gave me medicine and tried to transfer to physical therapy or acupuncture. However, I waited so long to get acupuncture, because the Western Doctor was on vacation and I could not see him to get the authorization. To have acupuncture, My Insurance Company would not accept acupuncture without a western doctor’s note. Finally I could get acupuncture. I went to see Dr. Tu. 3 times a week, sometimes 4 times a week. I had 15 or 16 times treatments. Now my finger moves much better and has very little pain.

Sometimes an acupuncturist helps more than Western doctors. I believe acupuncture works well.

Actually piercing acupuncture needled is not painful. I think most people have no problem to have acupuncture. There are many unbelievable treatments in China. I watched them on TV in Japan. I think acupuncture is the one of them.

6. Joint Pain & Auto Immune Disease

May 25, 2004

To Whom It May Concern:

I just want to stress out how acupuncture has change my life I was diagnosed with Auto Immune disease for the last 14 years. It cause my joints to be in pain and swollen. I’ve been to Kaiser for many years for treatment and I got lot of pain pills that cause me more side effects and mood swings. As the year gone by my condition became worsen; both of my ankles are deform (mis-shape), my left elbow were swollen for 4-5 years to the point that I no longer can button my shirt or brushed my hair. My right knee began to swell up too in 1997. I had got to the point that I couldn’t walk one block without needed to stop 2-3 times.

I was referred to Dr. Tu through my work since April 2001. I was so skeptical about the treatment, because I’ve been seen so many doctors in so many years and nothing helped. Over the years I also had been to others acupuncturist as well and my condition stayed the same. After the first couple of weeks of treatment at Dr.Tu clinic, my condition improved. Two months later my left elbow shown improvement as well. Now I can comb hair, button shirt and it function normally. As to my ankles, I can walk much better with less pain. My condition has improved 75% now.

I believe that acupuncture had changed my life. I used to feel so depress and not looking forward to do anything but stayed home. Now my day is brighter and I can do more things. I even enjoy dancing, go out for a short walk and traveling, which I never thought I could do.

Thank you

7. Testimonial – Severe Arthritis in Both knees

My name is                        . I am a 69-yr old male Caucasian who weighs more than 300 pounds. For five years or so, I have been fighting a loosing battle with severe arthritis in both knees. Getting onto my feet from a sitting position is the toughest job I can do every day. It is not only difficult, but extremely painful. My poor, overworked Mortrin (ibuprofen) medication for over 5 years. This medical regimen was not only dangerous on a long-run basis (it supposedly collects in the kidneys and damages them), but increasingly ineffective in controlling my pain.

The pain and stiffness in my knees became so impossible a month or so ago that I decided to try acupuncture to strengthen my knees and make it possible to quit taking Mortrin. I went to see Mr. Jiang Tu, Licensed Acupuncturist and Chinese Herbalist, of the Evergreen Alternative Medicine clinic and the El Cerrito Medical Group. To date I have had only 6 treatments (2 per week) and feel and more much better.

I no longer suffer from the excruciating agony of trying to force my reluctant knees to accept once more my horrible weight. I can get up with less effort and far less pain. The stiffness in both joints is considerably lessened. Last week I came down with a severe bronchial cold and had to give up the little bit of exercise that I was getting. I had to pretty much confine myself to sitting at my desk all day long and abandoning that position occasionally for short trips to the bathroom, bed, or to the kitchen for food and drink.

Mr. Jiang Tu had already urged me to accept a Chinese herbal remedy for my cold. He gave me a prescription with 14 Chinese herbs last Tuesday and today, 4 days later, I am feeling much better, coughing less and less wheezing and a diminished phlegm-out-put. Although first the sight of all those bark-chips, seeds and grass cutting scared me, I found – much to my surprise – that when boiled according Jiang Tu’s instructions and drunk, that the taste was neither impossible nor too bitter for me. I have drunk this strange-appearing concoction twice a day for four days and find it quite tolerable. I don’t exactly like it, but I can tolerate it.

So my message is simple. Acupuncture is uncomfortable, yet it relieves the greater pain that drove me to accepting that kind of treatment at first. It works. So too with the herbal prescription: bad-looking but tolerable and very effective. Enough said, Thank you very much Mr. Jiang Tu.

8.  Kidney Disease Treating by Integrating Western and Chinese Medicine

A 7-year old boy was born premature (32weeks) with a birth weight of only 3 lbs. His lungs collapsed shortly after birth and he was on a ventilator the first 2 weeks of his life. As a result, he has renal failure and bilateral hearing loss,

Two years later, he was only 14 lbs, and would vomit at least 7-8 x a day. He was taking medicine to adjust the density of calcium and phosphorus in his blood. Although this was effective on his blood, his kidney function worsened because he was in a low protein and sodium diet. His general body condition was very weak especially his ability to fight flu or ear infection since he cannot tolerate any antibiotic. He was always having cold sweats and in extreme cases, his face would turn green from being too weak, causing his creatine level to also increase.

His kidneys then began to shrink to 4.6 cm & 4.4 cm from 5.0 cm. Neurologists & transplant teams suggested a transplant for him within 6 months. His parents were devastated not only because of the enormous risks involved with the surgery but also because he was very young and it will be difficult to explain everything to him. They searched extensively for other alternative medicine and met Dr. Tu.

Dr. Tu immediately started HERBAL THERAPY & ACUPRESSURE. He made weekly visits (sometimes sooner) and checked his pulse, tongue and the latest blood tests. He performed acupressure and instructed the parents so this can be done regularity.

Slowly, his general body condition improved: His vomiting stopped, his appetite improved, his cold sweat stopped, his body became warmer and he has greater resistance to flu. Four years later, he has not shown any side effects. He is much happier, has no dietary limitations, and he shows normal physical growth. His mental and physical skills improved and he goes to school regularly. His comprehension and communication improved and he can write & speak simple words.

More important, his KIDNEY has grown to 5.0 cm and 5.6 cm. He is free from dialysis, he has a normal life and he has delayed his transplant for more than 46 months. I therefore believe: IN CHRONIC CASES LIKE THIS, THE COMBINATION OF WESTERN AND HERBAL THERAPY gave him all the benefits of a transplant without any of the RISKS.

9.  Irregular Menstrual Cycles & Severe Insomnia

May 17, 2004

To Whom It may Concern:

I have been receiving acupuncture treatments from Dr. Jiang Tu since April 2003. I was experiencing severe insomnia and irregular menstrual cycles, which made even daily activities such as working very difficult. I had spoken to my primary care physician about my problems and after many tests, she was unable to pinpoint the problem and recommended I eat a balanced diet and exercise. Although I followed her recommendations, the problem persisted. I started going to Dr. Tu since he was recommended to me by my mother and after weekly treatments for the first four months, I was able to sleep better, my menstrual cycles became more regular and pain free and my level of energy has increased tremendously. In addition, acupuncture has also improved my allergies to a point where I no longer need to take medication. I now receive treatments bi-monthly due to the improvements in my health and will eventually go monthly for maintenance.

I was initially unsure about the effects acupuncture could have on my symptoms given they were not concrete. Unlike muscle pain or headaches where a patient can immediately receive relieve, my problems were not so easy to treat; however, I now know that it can improve and maintain overall health without any side effects or long term damage that drugs may sometimes have. I will continue to use acupuncture for health maintenance and treatment in the future and fully support the benefits it has as an alternative to taking medication.

10.  Integrating general doctor treatment with acupuncture can do more for my health than just doctor visits alone

May 12, 2004

To Whom It May Concern:

I’m writing this letter in regards to the acupuncture treatment I have been receiving since December 2003, from Dr. Tu. I started my treatment because I have arthritis in my right hip, lower and upper back pain, high cholesterol, high blood pressure and a weight problem. I am also seeing Dr. Tu for stress relief.

My husband is 50 years old. He has had one stroke, two heart attacks, two stints placed, and a triple bypass. He also suffers from migraines, pain in his leg due to a sciatic nerve problem in his hip. He is in and out of the hospital due to his health problems, and is often in pain at home. He is required to take a lot of medications, but due to his heart health, he is unable to be treated for the migraine problem, as the medications for one, is not compatible for the other. I have two teenage children and I work full time as a Supervisor of ten people for the department of Child Support Services in Contra Costa County. I am under stress a lot.

I saw my gynecologist on May 5, 2004, and I believe due to my weekly treatments from Dr. Tu, my blood pressure was down to within normal limits for the first time in three years. Dr. Tu has been teaching me the correct way to breathe and exercises to keep my stress level down. I have used these exercises when I was at the Dentist Office on May 10, 2004, when I had a crown put in. I was able to control my fear and kept my stress level down. Since I have been his patient, there have been many occasions when I used what he was taught me to get through troubled times.

I have lost 10 pounds since December 2003. I have less back pain and I feel in more control of my life that I have in many years. I have no doubt that this is due to the acupuncture treatments. When my health coverage stopped after ten visits this year, I cut back on my treatment due to cost. It was clear in just two weeks that going only every other week was not enough, and I now go for acupuncture once a week, again. Please understand that this alternative treatment along with my regular General Doctor treatment has done more for my health than just doctor visits alone.
